A computer-implemented method that facilitates invitations of new users to chat sessions already in progress is provided. The method is executed on a server having one or more processors and memory storing one or more programs to be executed by the one or more processors. The method includes receiving chat content from participants in a chat session; detecting, within the chat content, an embedded request to invite a specified user to join the chat session; and in response to detecting the embedded request, sending an invitation to the specified user, wherein sending the invitation to the specified user includes determining whether the specified user is logged into a chat application connected to the server, and if the specified user is not logged into the chat application, sending the invitation through an active or inactive window of another application. |
