PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor having a small internal resistance and a large electrostatic capacity. SOLUTION: A material which is such that the conventionally used activated carbon powder is mixed with fiber or particles of conductive porous ceramic having a mesoporous structure is used for the material of a polarizable electrode. The conductive porous ceramic consists of a conductive metal oxide selected among an antimony-tin composite oxide, an indium-tin composite oxide, etc. Since the conductive porous ceramic has a high conductivity and a porous structure having a very small diameter optimal for expression of a capacity, it has the functions of the activated carbon and a conductive granting agent which have been conventionally used, realizing a small internal resistance and a large electrostatic capacity at the same time.
