PURPOSE: A smart key apparatus for a vehicle and a drive method thereof are provided to prevent or allow the use of a smart key by determining whether a driver is enabled to drive a car, namely the driver is drunk or not using the driver's biological information. CONSTITUTION: A smart key apparatus(100) for a vehicle comprises a controller(125), a light emitting unit(122), a light receiving unit(123), and a drive unit(127). The controller determines the drinking state of a user from one or more user's biological information and produces drive control signals. The light emitting unit irradiates light on the user's finger. The light receiving unit collects the light transmitted from or reflected to the finger. The light receiving unit creates vital information. The drive unit controls the operation of the smart key apparatus.
