PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pollution preventing agent, and a pollution preventing cosmetic or a pollution preventing skin external preparation including the same which are requested for the purpose of alleviation of skin damage by contaminants causing air pollution because a problem of air pollution becomes serious considering influence to the respiratory system and also adverse effect to the skin in recent years.SOLUTION: A pollution preventing agent, a pollution preventing cosmetic, and a pollution preventing skin external preparation are realized by finding functions of a pantothenic acid and/or derivatives thereof including: a function alleviating cytotoxicity by contaminants in an epidermic cell; a function suppressing excessive inducement of xenobiotic metabolism enzyme CYP1 which generates metabolites causing the skin damage; and a function suppressing the excessive immune response.SELECTED DRAWING: None
