The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling required torque of a vehicle, reducing fuel consumption by reducing the changed amount of torque even when high torque is required by a driver while a malfunction indicator light (MIL) lamp is turned on depending on an oxygen sensor of a vehicle and fault of catalyst, thereby reducing generation of harmful exhaust gas. The method for controlling required torque of a vehicle comprises: a step of detecting sensing voltage of an accelerator pedal sensor while the MIL lamp is turned on; a step of calculating the opening degree of an accelerator pedal using the sensing voltage in case the sensing voltage is increased and then performing a control operation such that a change in the calculated opening degree of the accelerator pedal is delayed in a predetermined range; and a step of limiting required torque into a set limit torque value after controlling the opening degree of the accelerator pedal and controlling fuel injection amount depending on a limited torque value. |
