The invention also provides uses and methods for using the alpha-1,3-fucosyltransferases to generate fucosylated products, such as oligosaccharides, (glyco)proteins, or (glyco)lipids, in particular of 3-fucosyllactose. |

1. A method for producing fucosylated oligosaccharides, the method comprising the steps of:
a. providing a polypeptide with alpha-1,3-fucosyltransferase activity and with the ability to use lactose, or an oligosaccharide comprising a lactose residue, as acceptor substrate, wherein the polypeptide consists of the amino acid sequence set forth as one of SEQ ID NO. 2, SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 6, an amino acid sequence at least 95% identical to the amino acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO. 2, an amino acid sequence at least 95% identical to the amino acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO: 4, or an amino acid sequence at least 95% identical to the amino acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO: 6; and b. contacting the polypeptide with alpha-1,3-fucosyltransferase activity of step a. with a mixture comprising a donor substrate comprising a fucose residue, and an acceptor substrate comprising lactose or an oligosaccharide comprising a lactose residue, under conditions where the polypeptide catalyzes the transfer of a fucose residue from the donor substrate to the acceptor substrate, thereby producing fucosylated oligosaccharides. |
