PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a weft in a strained state by gripping the weft in a high tensional strength state by weft inserting as it is in the weft gripping zone of a weft gripping apparatus. SOLUTION: In this weft gripping apparatus 4 which is arranged closer to at least one side of the downstream side and the upstream side of weft inserting than a woven fabric 11 and to the sending out side of a warp 10 than a flying route 8 of a weft 3 and grips the inserted weft 3 for a fixed period, at least a part of the weft gripping zone of the weft gripping apparatus 4 is installed closer to the winding side than the flying route 8 of the weft 3 and protrusively to a position closer to the sending out side of the warp 10 than the position of a cloth fell 9, a first regulation meter 5 having a first regulation face 26 extended in the direction crossing the weft inserting direction at corresponding positions of both sides in the weft inserting direction of the weft gripping zone is arranged. The first regulation member 5 is rocked and driven with a beating-up motion. After weft inserting, in the course of the rocking drive of the first regulation member 5, the weft 3 is forced into the weft gripping zone of the weft gripping apparatus 4 while bringing the weft 3 into contact with the first regulation face 26.
