PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the variation of a strip tension caused by the temp. Variation in a furnace, in a helper roll control device for controlling a motor so as to execute a feedback control of the strip tension at the position of the helper roll to the helper roll in a continuous annealing furnace through a proportional integral instrument. SOLUTION: A gain 20 used in a proportional integral instrument 7 is made to resettable and a temp.-gain converting table 19, in which the optimum gain 20 corresponds to the temp. 18 in the continuous annealing furnace, is beforehand made. The furnace temp. 18 is monitored and the gain 20 is renewed by using the converting table 19 according to the variation of the furnace temp. 18 and the strip tension can be controlled by using always the optimum gain and the controllability is improved.
