Reactive dye mixtures containing at least 2 reactive dyes comprise: (i) 90-99.99 wt.% of an azo dye (I); (ii) 0-10 wt.% of an anthraquinone dye (II); and (iii) 0-10 wt.% of a sulfonated phthalocyanine dye (III), each having a vinylsulfonyl substituent. Reactive dye mixtures containing at least 2 reactive dyes comprise: (i) 90-99.99 wt.% of an azo dye of formula (I); (ii) 0-10 wt.% of an anthraquinone dye (II); and (iii) 0-10 wt.% of a sulfonated phthalocyanine dye of formula (III). FAzo = an azo dye, generally prepared by coupling a diazotized aromatic amine (diazo component) with a sufficiently reactive second aromatic (coupling component); FAq = an anthraquinone dye, generally substituted with pi -donors in the 1-, 1,4- or 1,5-position; FsPc = a phthalocyanine dye, which can be sulfonated or chlorinated, with a sulfo group, optionally substituted by Y to form vinylsulfonyl; Y = CH=CH2. An Independent claim is also included for a process for staining polymers containing nitrogen or hydroxyl groups, where a reactive dye mixture as above is applied as a solution and the dye is fixed to nucleic acids or chemically modified nucleic acids using an alkali and/or mild heat.
