CROSSLINKABLE POLYSACCHARIDE DERIVATIVE, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, CROSSLINKABLE POLYSACCHARIDE COMPOSITION AND MEDICAL TREATMENT MATERIAL

It is intended to provide a crosslinkable polysaccharide derivative which has at least one active ester group capable of reacting with an active hydrogen-containing group introduced into a polysaccharide side chain and is usable in forming a crosslinked product via the covalent bond between the active ester group and the active hydrogen-containing group as described above, when contacted with water under alkaline conditions; a composition containing the same; and a medical treatment material. This crosslinkable polysaccharide derivative fulfills clinical requirements in adhesive force to tissues. From the viewpoint of safety, moreover, it is free from any risk of infection and so on caused by using a non-biological material and shows lowered toxicity caused by using a synthetic material per se or its decomposition products. Further, this crosslinkable polysaccharide derivative is biologically absorbable, lessens pretreatments to be performed at the proper timing during an operation and enables quick emergency response without resort to any special devices.
