PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a button type alkaline battery having high storage characteristics and high electrolyte leakage resistance by suppressing generation of hydrogen gas in the battery. SOLUTION: In the button type alkaline battery using zinc or zing alloy containing no mercury as a negative active material and housing a power generating element containing a positive electrode mix 1 and a negative electrode agent 3 in a sealed space formed with a positive electrode can, a negative terminal plate, and a circular gasket, a zinc alloy coating film 7 containing 0.1-30 mass% indium and/or bismuth is formed on the surface coming in contact with the negative electrode agent of the negative terminal plate, and the circular gasket 6 made of alkali resistant synthetic resin containing 0.05-1 mass% carbon black and having a crystallinity of 30-50% is used.
