PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DMFC in which output characteristics are improved by improving the catalytic activity of an air pole. SOLUTION: In a direction methanol type fuel cell, a fuel pole and the air pole which support a metal catalyst are disposed through a solid polyelectrolyte, and a liquid methanol is used as a fuel. The relation of Y-X≤0.25(eV) is satisfied, wherein X (eV) is the work function of a carbon material which is a carrier of metal supporting catalyst of the air pole, and Y (eV) is the work function of the metal supporting catalyst after the metal catalyst is carried.
