摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving an optically addressed spatial light modulation element formed by stacking optically addressed spatial light modulation layers, that can prevent color reproduction from degrading by cross talk without making the image writing time long. SOLUTION: A method of writing images is implemented by sequentially carrying out the following steps on all the optically addressed spatial light modulation layers 4B, 4G, and 4R: a step of applying a voltage A between electrodes 10, 11 to make the phase state uniform on the liquid crystal layer 12; a step of exposing the optically addressed spatial light modulation elements 1 by applying a voltage B larger than the phase change threshold level when not exposing or exposing, or similarly applying the voltage B not exceeding the threshold level in the opposite case; a step of similarly applying a voltage C as needed for maintaining the hysteresis of the phase state of the liquid crystal layer 12; and a step of removing the voltage B or C. This drive method of an optically addressed spatial light modulation element makes the voltage B a low frequency wave not spoiling the optical switch function of the photoconduction layer 15, and makes the voltages A, C high frequency waves higher than the frequency spoiling the above optical switch function.
