PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a car top handrail device for an elevator capable of easily and safely assembling and housing a car top handrail. SOLUTION: This car top handrail device for the elevator provided in the top surface of a car 1 to be hoisted in a hoistway has a pair of first handrail portions 2 provided along the peripheral part on both sides of the top surface of the car 1 and a second handrail portion 3 turnably connected to the first handrail portions 2, and is fallen sideways in normal operation and held in the erected state in maintenance work. A stopper 10 for limiting turn of the second handrail portion 3 is provided so that the second handrail portion 3 is synchronously moved with the first handrail portions 2 when the first handrail portions 2 are fallen sideways.
