Disclosed is the methanesulfonic acid salt of an abiraterone derivative as represented by the formula (I), where R' represents a lower acyl group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms. Also disclosed is a process for the preparation of a compound as defined above or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which includes the step of recovering an acid addition salt of the compound from methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE).
