PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode which can achieve a good conversion efficiency of a reactive gas to ions even with a small amount of a catalyst metal; and an electrochemical device using such an electrode.SOLUTION: An electrode 3 comprises: a conductive porous body 12 including an electron conductor 10 and an ion-conducting solid electrolyte 11; and metal nanoparticles 13 held by the conductive porous body 12. The quantity of the metal nanoparticles 13 in contact with the electron conductor 10 and the ion-conducting solid electrolyte 11 on the surface of the conductive porous body 12 is larger than the quantity of the metal nanoparticles included in the conductive porous body 12.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
