Provided are a grid plate for an optical encoder and a method for manufacturing a grid plate for an optical encoder, the grid plate for an optical encoder being used in an optical encoder for radiating irradiation light at an angle of 30-75 degrees with respect to a reflecting surface, using visible light or infrared light as the irradiation light, and detecting the amount or direction of displacement of an object by receiving reflected light reflected by the reflecting surface, the grid plate for an optical encoder having a substrate 20 in which one surface 21 is used as the reflecting surface, and a grid 30 arranged at a predetermined grid width on the surface 21, a metal being used as the substrate 20, the grid 30 being formed by a black plating layer, the average roughness Ra of the metal surface 21 being in the range of 0.008 µm to 0.05 µm, the black plating layer having a thickness of less than 3 µm, and the grid plate for an optical encoder being resistant to peeling, having good plating deposition properties, and being capable of realizing a high S/N ratio. |
