SLURRY POLYMERIZATION OF ETHYLENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a highly tough ultrahigh-molecular weight polyethylene. SOLUTION: This method is such one as to subject ethylene to slurry polymerization in a loop/slurry reactor, specifically comprising as follows: (a) ethylene monomer is catalyzed by (b) a catalytic system carried on an inorganic oxide carrier, having a particle size of 1-40μm and containing both a magnesium compound and a titanium halide and (c) an alkylaluminum cocatalyst at about 150 - about 180 deg.F in the presence of a 3-4C hydrocarbon diluent and also in the presence of hydrogen to produce and collect the objective ultrahigh-molecular weight ethylene homopolymer.
