PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a hexagonal boron nitride sintered compact suitable as a setter for baking ceramics and having a high whiteness and a low oxygen content. SOLUTION: This hexagonal boron nitride sintered compact is produced by placing a material which comprises a sintered compact of hexagonal boron nitride and is to be heat-treated in a container made of boron nitride or lined with the boron nitride and heat-treating the material at >=1,800 deg.C temperature in a nonoxidizing atmosphere with >=80% N2 volume fraction. The resultant sintered compact has <1×1018 spins/g spin concentration and <=0.5 wt.% oxygen content. |
