PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an image fault such as a grain, an image elongation or the like, an image deterioration such as a master breakage, an image collapse or the like in the case of printing exceeding a plate wear number of a master. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a plate cylinder for winding a master to be engraved having a predetermined plate wear resistance number on its outer periphery, a plate delivery unit, an engraving unit or the like and prints a printing sheer by pressing the sheet on the master on the cylinder. The printer comprises a body controller 88 for controlling a plate delivery driver 196, an engraving plate supply driver 195 and a plate cylinder driver 198 to automatically conduct a plate replacing operation for winding engraved another master on the cylinder by delivering the used master when the number of impressions reaches a predetermined plate wear number in the case of printing a total number of printing sheets exceeding the predetermined plate wear number, and forming an engraving image of substantially the same as the engraving image formed on the used master on another master.
