PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of correcting a droop accurately through a simple arrangement, and to provide a laser drive circuit. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a constant current generating means 8 for supplying a driving current to a laser element 101, a switching means 7 for supplying a driving current from the constant current generating means to the laser element based on image data, means PD and 9 for detecting emission quantity of the laser element, a means 11 for generating a reference signal which sets a laser light emission quantity at a reference intensity, and an emission quantity control means 10 for controlling the output current from the constant current generating means so that the emission quantity is sustained at the reference intensity by comparing the output signal from the emission quantity detecting means with a reference signal. The emission quantity control means comprises a means for comparing the reference signal with the output signal over one scanning period at the outside of an image forming region and outputting a comparison signal, and a droop correcting means for controlling the driving current being fed from the switching means to the laser element depending on the output signal from the comparing means in the image forming region.
