PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a similar patent specification retrieval system developing a related word corresponding to a retrieval word, that is ground of an invention theory without using conventional manual construction information source, associating the related word with a concept of invention, preventing retrieval omission in document retrieval, and retrieving a patent specification having a similar invention theory. SOLUTION: This similar patent specification retrieval system retrieving the similar patent specification from a plurality of patent specifications stored in a database by a key extracted from an investigation patent specification that is an investigation target has: a retrieval word extraction part extracting a word recorded in a claim of the investigation patent specification, and outputting it as the retrieval word; a concept explanatory sentence extraction part extracting a concept explanatory sentence described with the concept that is the ground of the invention theory of the retrieval word from the investigation patent specification; a related word extraction part extracting a word recorded in the concept explanatory sentence, and outputting it as the related word; and a document retrieval part retrieving the similar patent specification from the database by the retrieval word and the related word.
