PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish an easier and simpler biosynthesis of lipophilic plant secondary metabolite and a method for collecting the metabolite through adsorption efficiently. SOLUTION: In order to collect lipophilic secondary metabolite produced from plant cells, for example, lipophilic flavonoid, an adsorption material made of fragment pieces of porous urethane resin is used as an adsorbent. The adsorption material is added to the culture medium for culturing the plant cells and the lipophilic secondary metabolite produced from the plant cells is adsorbed to the fragmeng pieces. Then, the fragment pieces are taken out from the culture medium and the target lipophilic secondary metabolite is recovered from the fragment pieces. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
