PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber permitting to attain a sufficiently large numerical aperture and incidence of higher optical power density at the same time. SOLUTION: In the optical fiber for coupling a laser diode array for receiving an output from a laser diode array, the optical fiber 10 is provided with a core 1 prolonged along the longitudinal direction, and clads 2, 3 which are arranged so as to surround the core 1 and are formed into a photonic crystal structure in the radial direction of the fiber with two or more air holes 4 prolonged along the core 1, and the diameter d of the air holes 4 and the spacingΛare set so that a numerical aperture (NA) and a form matched with the characteristic of the laser diode array to be coupled to the optical fiber 10 can be obtained.
