<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for enabling a plurality of objects to be selected with a smaller number of touch operations from objects displayed on a monitor with a touch panel placed thereon. <P>SOLUTION: A touch state of a touch operation of the touch panel placed on the monitor capable of displaying a plurality of objects (I1 to I16) is detected. The size of a selection area (620, 630) defining the range of object selection is determined according to the detected touch state, and the selection area is set on the basis of the touch position.
