An apparatus and method is disclosed for an intravascular balloon device having a balloon and a handle where a catheter tube extends between the two. The handle assembly includes an inflation device in fluid communication with the balloon. A medical tool is provided on the outer surface of the balloon for the treatment of intravascular conditions. The medical tool may be configured to score or remove atherosclerotic material.

1. An intravascular device for medical treatment of a blood vessel comprising:
a balloon configured to move between an inflated and a deflated state; a catheter tube extending from an end of the balloon and defining an inner lumen; a handle assembly affixed to an end of the catheter tube, said handle assembly comprising an inflation device; a blade affixed to the outer surface of the balloon adapted to present a cutting surface oriented perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the balloon; and wherein said inflation device is in fluid communication with the balloon.
