PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacture of an aluminum composite excellent in strength characteristic, particularly high temp. strength. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing a composite material where Ti compound grains are dispersed in Al or Al alloy, molten Al or Al alloy is atomized by means of an inert gas where a powder mixture consisting of a Ti powder and a powder of an element forming a compound with Ti is mixed, and the resultant atomized droplets of the molten metal are deposited in a semi-solid state together with the powder mixture. In this way, a Ti compound of <=1μm average grain size is formed by reaction in the molten metal in a semi-solid state, and the Al or Al-alloy composite where Ti compound grains are dispersed in the matrix can be obtained.
