MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium in which good electromagnetic conversion characteristics is obtained even for high-density recording. SOLUTION: This medium is made to a multilayer coated structure formed so that on a nonmagnetic supporting body 1, a nonmagnetic layer as a lower layer 4 is formed and a magnetic layer as an upper layer 2 is formed. The nonmagnetic powder in the lower layer 4 is made to contain carbon black and acicular inorg. powder in a ratio of 70:30 to 90:10. The acicular inorg. powder has 0.05 to 0.2μm major axial length and 2 to 10 acicular ratio. The carbon black has 0.01 to 0.04μm average particle size. The surface roughness of the upper layer surface is made to <=4.2 nm in center line average roughness Ra.
