PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause a large heat gradient between the high-temperature and low- temperature end surfaces of a thermoelectric converting module to improve the generating performance by forming an insert hole for inserting the thermoelectric converting module to an exhaust gas passage pipe, and inserting the high-temperature end surface side of the thermoelectric converting module. SOLUTION: The high-temperature end surface 9a-1 of a thermoelectric converting module 9-1 is arranged within the exhaust gas passage 15 of an inner cylinder 3-1 through an insert hole 13 provided on the heat collecting surface 3a-1 of the inner cylinder 3-1, and the low-temperature end surface 9b-1 of the thermoelectric converting module 901 is closely fitted to the radiating surface 1a-1 of an outer cylinder 1. In a waste heat generating device 11-1 having such a structure, a high-temperature exhaust gas carried down in the exhaust gas passage 15 within the inner cylinder 3-1 directly heats the high-temperature end surface 9a-1 of the thermoelectric converting module 9-1. Simultaneously with this, the heat of the low-temperature end surface 9b-1 of the thermoelectric converting module 9-1 is released by a radiation fin 5 provided on the outer cylinder 1 to cool the low-temperature end surface 9b-1, and the thermoelectric power is generated according to the heat gradient caused between the high-and low-temperature end surfaces 9a-1, 9b-1 to generate a power.
