PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger detection system capable of discriminating the breaking of a connection member. SOLUTION: The passenger detection system 1 comprises a connection member, a pulley for winding the connection member in such a manner capable of pulling out or pulling in, an energizing member for energize the pulley in a direction to pull in the connection member, a magnetism generation member rotating with the pulley, a displacement sensor 1L (1R) equipped with a yoke with a pair of gaps, the flux density of which changes corresponding to the rotation of the magnetism generation member, and a Hall IC 4L (4R) arranged in either side of the pair of gaps for magneto-electric conversion, and the passenger detection ECU 94 for discriminating the passenger state from the output voltage of the Hall IC 4L (4R) and transmitting the passenger information to the passenger protection device 95. The passenger detection ECU 94 stores the breaking discrimination region including output voltage in the case of the pulley and magnetism generation member are held in the limited position in the winding direction when the connection member is broken and the passenger discrimination region independent from the breaking discrimination region.
