A graphical user interface (GUI) displays a network of nodes corresponding to a user and other entities. A parent (user) node location (20) is calculated in the GUI display space and displayed, then entities having a relationship with the user are retrieved. The relationship, with associated metric, for each entity is retrieved, a display distance in the display space is calculated based on it, and a child node displayed (22) corresponding to the entity at the distance from the parent node. The displayed node shape may differ (fig. 7). User inputs are received indicating respectively child node and a display space location selection. An updated distance between parent node and the indicated location is calculated, and the stored relationship is amended based on the updated distance. The child node is then displayed at the updated distance. A network edge (24), (26) based on the metric may be displayed between nodes. Distance calculation may comprise adjusting preliminary distance with weighting information comprising a measure of inter-entity interaction (e.g. messages). Auxiliary nodes without a user relationship may be displayed. The GUI display may be divided into zones, within which nodes are displayed. Access rights in a security application may thus be controlled. |
