A medical expense information providing method and system in which a calculating company provides information for calculating the sum that a bearer or a specific patient bears of at least part of the medical expense for the medical activities by a medical institute to the patient. The calculating company receives patient information and medical activity information from the medical institution through a communication line and acquires the sum that the bearer or the specific patient bears or information for calculating the sum on the basis of information representing the correspondence between the bearer and the proportion of the medical expense of the medical activities that the bearer bears and the received medical information and medical activity information. The acquired information is presented to the bearer or the specific patient through a communication line.
