PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a determination means for determining whether or not a user is operating a control component in a control area, and to improve the operability of a user interface by modifying waiting time according to the result of the determination. SOLUTION: A display screen updating method (device) updates a display screen using a GUI of a computer, which is provided with at least a processing part and a display part, at regular intervals with prescribed waiting time, determines whether or not the user is operating a control component in the control area on the GUI screen, and modifies the waiting time of an updating process of the display screen so as to be long when determined that the user is operating the control area.
