INFORMATION SEARCH SYSTEM AND METHOD, PROGRAM, AND RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To search for not only documents matching search questions but also information related to the documents and to present the result to a user. SOLUTION: A characteristic expression extracting part 12 extracts characteristic expressions from texts in documents stored in a document database 11 and stores them in a characteristic expression database 13. A matching document search part 14 searches the document database 11 for information matching the input search questions and outputs the result as a list of matching documents. A relevance calculating part 15 inputs from the characteristic expression database 13 the characteristic expressions appearing in the documents included in the list of matching documents and the numbers of documents where the characteristic expressions appear; calculates the relevance between each characteristic expression and the group of matching documents; and outputs the characteristic expressions each with the calculated relevance equal to or greater than a certain value as a list of relevant characteristic expressions. A search accepting part 16 presents the list of matching documents and a list of relevant characteristic expressions to the user's terminal in response to an input search questions.
