PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read specular reflection intensity over a subject even when the subject is a large curved surface. SOLUTION: A glossiness reading method images a subject more than once with imaging means while relatively moving a light source for illuminating the subject and the imaging means for imaging the subject in at least one channel, compares channel value data at each pixel between the plurality of images captured by the imaging to produce a maximum value of the channel values, and creates a maximum value image indicating the maximum channel value at each pixel.
