A pair of terminals (22-25) of each contact device that electrically connects the discharge lamps (71,72), is connected with secondary winding (Ls) of the transformer. The terminals (21,27) of contact devices are connected in series to primary (Lp) of the transformer, with a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor (9) and a series capacitor (12) in between one of the terminals and transformer. An Independent claim is also included for electronic ballast.
