In order to allow reliable counting of cards even with a different design, a card counter for counting cards held in a stack or magazine, having a sensor system that interacts with the cards, is proposed that is distinguished in that the sensor system has at least two sensor channels interacting differently with each of the cards to be counted in the stack or magazine.
