PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with the disassembling of a propeller shaft in the inspection and repair of a pump by mounting a pump for pumping oil on a lower vertical shaft orthogonal to the propeller shaft for rotating a propeller through a gear device, and operating the pump by the rotation of the vertical shaft. SOLUTION: A propulsion unit 11 has an input shaft 13 with a bevel gear 12 connected to an engine through a universal joint, and the bevel gear 12 is meshed with upper and lower normally/reversely rotating gears 15 fixed to a drive shaft 14 of vertical shaft, and the meshing is controlled by a clutch 16 through a slide cone. A forward/backward switching device 20 is arranged on the upper part of the drive shaft 14 to connect the drive shaft 14 to a propeller shaft 18 through a lower gear device 17, and a propeller 19 is rotated by the propeller shaft 18 to provide a propulsive force. According to this, a screw or propeller is integrated onto a sleeve shaft provided between upper and lower driving shafts, and the structure is simplified more to facilitate the attachment/ detachment for maintenance.
