Disclosed is a process for producing a highly pure crystal of 2-amino-2-[2-[4-(3-benzyloxyphenylthio)-2-chlorophenyl]- ethyl]-1,3-propanediol hydrochloride with high efficiency. The process comprises the following steps (1) and (2): (1) dissolving 2-amino-2-[2-[4-(3-benzyloxyphenylthio)-2- chlorophenyl]ethyl]-1,3-propanediol in a mixed solvent composed of a solvent having high solubility to 2-amino- 2-[2-[4-(3-benzyloxyphenylthio)-2-chlorophenyl]ethyl]-1,3- propanediol hydrochloride and a solvent having poor solubility to 2-amino-2-[2-[4-(3-benzyloxyphenylthio)-2- chlorophenyl]ethyl]-1,3-propanediol hydrochloride to prepare a solution of 2-amino-2-[2-[4-(3-benzyloxyphenylthio)-2- chlorophenyl]ethyl]-1,3-propanediol; and (2) adding hydrochloric acid to the solution while agitating the solution to cause the crystallization of 2-amino-2-[2-[4-(3-benzyloxyphenylthio)-2- chlorophenyl]ethyl]-1,3-propanediol hydrochloride. |
