In the method for the machine encircling of an infusion bag (1) with a draw string the draw string is first orientated in U-form on one side of the bag at least as far as openings (4,5) in the top section (2) of the bag, and as loops (31,32) is passed through the openings on the other side so that in the region of the bottom (3) of the bag two additional loops (33,34) are formed which extend to the loops formed in the region of the top section. Then the loops in the bottom region are guided through the loops in the top section and drawn up for the forming of the tie members.
