PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten error correction processing time to an error correcting unit block in which interleaving is applied to main data. SOLUTION: In the error correcting method, after rearranging code columns in order of error correction, it is determined whether or not the corresponding positional information of disappearance shows disappearance of data, only to all byte positions of the code column on the boundary part between the main data area and a sub-data area or a SY area, and positional information of disappearance is set only to a position required for newly acquiring positional information of disappearance. To the other byte positions, the positional information of disappearance is set, of which the error correcting sequence is at the same byte position as the preceding code column. However, when the preceding code column is an error correction impossible code column, the error correction sequence sets the positional information of disappearance to all the byte positions of the code column following the error correction impossible code column, and to the code columns thereafter, the positional information of disappearance is set until an object byte position comes to the next boundary part of the main data area, the sub-data area, or the SY area.
