PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for preparing download data as a suited program for each version of hardware in an information processing apparatus including a function for downloading data. SOLUTION: The information processing apparatus comprises a ROM 20, RAM 30, rewritable nonvolatile memory 40, external interface 50, and processor 10. In the disclosed data processing method, data B for after change of hardware desired to use are stored in the nonvolatile memory 40 by a booting program BP stored in the ROM 20. The data B for after hardware change are then read out by the booting program BP or data A for before hardware change stored in the nonvolatile memory 40 are read out by a main program MP stored in the nonvolatile memory 40.
