AUTHENTICATION METHOD IN NETWORK SYSTEM, AUTHENTICATION APPARATUS, AND APPARATUS TO BE AUTHENTICATED

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication method for enabling outside workers to perform by themselves only EPON system opening construction and fault repairing without interposing an operator for a communication common carrier. SOLUTION: The authentication method includes: a process of directly inputting to an ONU and registering, as authentication information, a password (p) generated by a unidirectional function using a user ID and secret information of an OLT and the user ID; a process of transmitting the authentication information from the ONU to the OLT; a PW generation process of generating a password (P) by a unidirectional function using the user ID in the authentication information received by the OLT and the secret information of the OLT; an authentication process of discriminating whether the user ID and the password (p) registered in the ONU are right or not on the basis of the authentication information received from the ONU without previously registering the user ID and the password in the OLT; and a process of notifying the ONU about the result (success/failure) of discrimination made by the OLT in the authentication process.
