APPARATUS FOR ESTIMATING CHANNEL IN MULTIPLE INPUT MULTIPLE OUTPUT COMMUNICATION SYSTEM OF OFDM OR OFDMA AND METHOD USING THE SAME

An apparatus and a method for estimating a channel in an MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) communication system supporting OFDM or OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access) are provided to improve accuracy of channel estimation by using pilot channel estimation values of pilots transmitted from plural transmitting antennas and preamble channel estimation values of a preamble. By using preamble channel estimation values based on a preamble included in a received signal received in plural receiving antennas, a first channel operation unit(320) operates pilot channel estimation values of pilots, transmitted from a transmitting antenna for transmitting the preamble, as improved pilot channel estimation values for each receiving antenna. A first channel estimation unit(330) estimates a channel for each receiving antenna through interpolation of a frequency axis and a symbol index axis using the improved pilot channel estimation value. A second channel estimation unit(340) estimates a channel for each receiving antenna through interpolation of a frequency axis and a symbol index axis using pilot channel estimation values of pilots transmitted from the same transmitting antenna among pilots transmitted from a transmitting antenna which do not transmit the preamble among the plural transmitting antennas.
