A beverage dispenser with replaceable cartridge having an electromagnetic pump

A beverage dispenser (20) for dispensing a beverage into a container is disclosed. The dispenser includes a housing having a dispensing area (30). A pump and control valve is connected with a source of diluent, such as water. A cartridge receiving area (31) and a dispensing actuator (38) in the form of a wound coil are located in the housing. A concentrate/extract cartridge (50) in the cartridge receiving area is actuated by the dispensing actuator (38). The cartridge (50) includes a dispensing aperture for dispensing concentrate/extract into the dispensing area (30). A controller (80) is located in the housing (20) to control the actuator to discharge concentrate/extract into the dispensing area. A method of dispensing a selected beverage made from concentrate/extract and a diluent is also disclosed.
