<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound hydrogen permeable membrane whose hydrogen permeating speed is comparable to that of a Pd membrane. <P>SOLUTION: The compound hydrogen permeable membrane 1 includes a metal alloy substrate 2 having hydrogen permeability, oxide glass layers 3, 5 covering the metal alloy substrate 2, and catalyst layers 4, 6 covering the oxide glass layers 3, 5. The metal alloy substrate 2 consists of a Ni-Nb-Zr alloy, the oxide glass layers 3, 5 consist of tungsten oxide-containing phosphate glass having mixed conductivity of protons and electrons, and the catalyst layers 4, 6 consist of a transition metal such as Ni and Pd.
