PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an S,S-ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid production reaction by using a microorganism having ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid ethylenediamine lyase activity and carrying out the supply of raw material and the recovery of reaction liquid based on the change of electrical conductivity. SOLUTION: S,S-ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid useful as a biodegradable chelating agent in the fields of photography, detergent, paper-making, etc., is produced from fumaric acid and ethylenediamine by the action of a microorganism having ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid ethylenediamine lyase activity or its processed product. The production reaction is controlled by adding at least one kind of metal ion selected from alkaline earth metal, iron, zinc, copper, nickel, aluminum, titanium and manganese, placing an electric conductivity meter in the reaction system and carrying out the supply of raw material and/or the recovery of reaction liquid based on the change of detected electrical conductivity.
