The invention aims at inhibiting phlebitis caused by intravenous administration of tetracyclic compounds of the general formula (I). Pharmaceutical preparations containing the tetracyclic compounds and being administrable to patients who are in danger of suffering phlebitis due to intravenous administration of the compounds, which preparations are packaged in such a way that the compounds can be administered intravenously within about 45 minutes. (In the formula, R<1> is lower alkyl; and R<2> and R<3> are each lower alkanoyl.)
