PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adjusting an average electromagnetic torque with a wide dynamic adjusting range.

SOLUTION: An accurate response control process is used for controlling switching of a switch as a function of an instantaneous torque set point (94). So, the instantaneous torque set point is reached without delay at next adjusting time point. Then, in order that the average of instantaneous electromagnetic torque of an electric machine converges on an average torque set point, the instantaneous torque set point to be applied is calculated from the average torque set point at each adjusting time point (92). The value of harmonics of multi-phase voltage and/or multi-phase current generated by the inverter is determined (110). The instantaneous torque set point is established as a function of the value of harmonics during the calculation step (122 and 124). So such instantaneous torque set point as appropriate to limit a difference between the average of instantaneous electromagnetic torque set points between two continuous adjusting time points and the average torque set point is generated.
