Process for joining of synthetic and metal parts

The components are placed in contact with each other and the contact area (5) of the metal component (1) is irradiated with a laser beam (3). Heat absorbed by the metal is transmitted to the plastic (2) to melt the latter and weld it to the metal. The laser beam (3) may be directed either is directed either at the metal surface (11) facing away from the plastic component (2) or the metal surface facing the plastic. In the contact area (5) the metal surface may be textured, preferably with undercuts. Laser wavelength is 800-1200nm and the metal component has an absorption layer which absorbs these wavelengths. An independent claim is included for a composite component based on metal (1) and thermoplastic plastic (2) parts welded together using laser irradiation.
